“Super Troopers 2”

The first “Super Troopers” movie aired way back in 2001.  I missed it entirely but decided to check out the sequel due to enthusiastic audience reviews.  As is my usual routine, I settled in for a sunny afternoon showing all alone!  Everyone else was at the beach apparently.  The credits started to roll and up pops Amy Schumer,  which caught me by surprise in that I had no idea she was in the film.  That’s because she’s not!  Her recent “I Feel Pretty” bomb is playing and I was sure that I would rather get a root canal than sit through it.  Off I went  to find the young theater manager who efficiently changed up the movie queue and the troopers began their shtick.

All five writers of the movie star as the Vermont State Troopers.  They are a crazy bunch and proceed to run through about every gag there is and some original ones to boot.  The plot is as silly as the film.  It is discovered that the border between Vermont and Canada is inaccurate and in reality the U.S. border curves further into Canada encompassing an entire town.  Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter,  plays the Governor of Vermont who commissions the long ago hapless, fired troopers to oversee the transition of law enforcement from the Canadian Mounties to American jurisdiction.

What ensues is pretty much every Canadian-American stereotype jab you can think of.  This kind of comic relief is not for everyone but I unfortunately have to admit that I like it.  Besides Lynda Carter, Rob Lowe makes an appearance as the Mayor of the little town who also runs a few illegal businesses,  and none other than “Wonder Years” Fred Savage shows up in the end for a very funny sequence.  Lowe’s attempt to sound French Canadian is pretty bad but funny.

Quebec born Emmanuelle Chiriqui, who played Sloan in the hit series ‘Entourage”, delivers nicely as the cute undercover cop.

If you like crass, slapstick, largely locker room humor this will likely amuse you.  If you don’t, it won’t.  I found the movie very funny and an enjoyable escape for a little while.  Maybe I was just happy to have avoided “I Feel Pretty”?

Born in Boston's South End where I spent my early childhood. I remember going to matinees at The National Theatre where for ten cents I could sit in the balcony and enjoy two feature films, a cartoon and a serial. Those were the days! We moved to Western Mass (the country) and I completed my education through college there. I served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division and went on to work for Bristol Myers Squibb for thirty years; traveling all over he world. Since retiring, have lived in Tallahassee, Fl and Leesburg, VA while raising our youngest son, Jake. My wife, Jennifer and I currently split our time between homes in Florida and Maine. We have three great kids (Shawn, Shannon & Jake), two wonderful kids "in law" ( Jenn & Steve) and five amazing grandchildren (Connor, Shana, Sophia, Bodie, & Sully). Hope this site offers them an opportunity to see another side of "Dad", "Jerryman" and "Grandpa"! Since retire
