I am a loyal Liam Neeson fan. From “Schindler’s List” to “Rob Roy” to the “Taken” series, he has been an “A Lister” for a long time. I guess when you are in high demand you are entitled to make a few mistakes when picking roles. This was one of those mistakes. Let’s hope there aren’t too many more.
This film fell apart for me in the early going. After a few intriguing scenes it quickly deteriorated into a silly storyline with lousy dialogue to go along with it.
The cast is fine but they pretty much are wasted. I was hard pressed to remember anything of interest from the likes of Sam Neil and Elizabeth McGovern. They drew a paycheck but were basically left out of the film.
The only partially bright light in the movie is Vera Farmiga who plays a mysterious evildoer on the commuter train. She earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in “Up in the Air” and an Emmy nomination for TV series “Bates Motel”.
By now you can tell I didn’t care for this amateurish thriller. Save your money and skip it entirely. If you are stuck inside on a stormy night and it’s playing on cable, you might want to watch for a few laughs. There is a great “lift” from “Spartacus” late in the movie which is good for a chuckle. It pretty much summed up this very weak effort for me.
Whoever sifts through scripts for Neeson needs to be more selective. He is too talented to be wasted on stuff of this caliber.
